“Our experience, size and geographic reach give us tremendous local market knowledge in most of the state’s northern and central valley regions. Wherever clients plan to build here, there’s a good chance we’re already knowledgeable about the location and adequacy of the local infrastructure, and have established relationships with local agency personnel.”

Bruce graduated from the University of California at Davis with a BS in Civil Engineering. He joined MacKay & Somps in 1976 as a Junior Engineer. Bruce has extensive experience in infrastructure planning for major projects and has developed innovative techniques for preliminary site evaluation. He served as the Engineering Manager of the Roseville office for 12 years, where he was responsible for preliminary design and quality control on construction documents, for all projects including high-profile land development projects such as Del Webb Sun City communities and the Galleria Mall. Bruce was elevated to the position of Associate in 2007.

“Today more clients are coming to us with constrained sites that require more creative problem solving – urban infill sites with parking or utility issues; suburban projects in the valley with wetlands, habitat or slope issues. Others might avoid this kind of work. For us it’s professionally challenging and a great use of our skills and experience.”

Ken’s career spans nearly forty years as a practicing engineer and land surveyor. After graduating from California State University, Chico, in 1973 with a BS in Civil Engineering, Ken worked as a design engineer in Sacramento. He joined MacKay & Somps in 1976 as a staff engineer, and was soon promoted to supervisor of the design section with responsibility for many residential subdivision projects throughout the Sacramento region. Ken left the company for a period to plan, design and manage the construction of Rancho Murieta, a 3500 acre master planned community in southeastern Sacramento County. He re-joined the firm in the late 1990s, helping to build the firm’s public infrastructure design practice. In 2007 Ken was elected an Associate.
